Let’s talk rubbish! Tell us what you think of our waste services

Posted on June 13, 2023

What do you think of your local household waste and street cleaning services?  That’s what South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse District Councils want to know as they launch their new waste services survey.

The two councils are asking people to share their views and experiences of waste services across the districts, including household waste, recycling and food waste collections, bulky waste collections, street cleaning services, customer services and the councils’ waste and recycling information.

The feedback from the survey will help to identify what aspects of these services people are happy with as well as the areas which could be improved.

Your opinion really does matter to us – take the survey now by visiting – southandvale.gov.uk/WasteSurvey  Comments are open until 11.59pm on Monday 10 July 2023.

If you have any questions or you require the survey in an alternative format (for example large print, Braille, audio, email, Easy Read and alternative languages) please email [email protected] or call 01235 422146.

Cllr Sue Cooper, Cabinet Member for Environment at South Oxfordshire District Council, said: “We know that we have one of the highest recycling rates in the country, however this survey will give us a valuable insight into how we are currently performing across all our waste services and help to identify any areas where we could make improvements.”

Cllr Mark Coleman, Cabinet Member for Environmental Services and Waste at Vale of White Horse District Council. “This survey is a great opportunity for residents to tell us what they think of our waste services.  It’s important that we hear from as many people as possible across both districts, so we encourage everyone to go online and take part in the survey.”

This waste survey focuses on services provided by South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse District Councils.  It does not cover any questions relating to Household Waste Recycling Centres as these services are owned and managed separately by Oxfordshire County Council.

Local recycling rates recently published by DEFRA show that for 2021-2022 South Oxfordshire was ranked second nationally, with 62.7 per cent of all household waste reused, recycled or composted, while the Vale was ranked fourth on 61.9 per cent. The national average in England is 44.1 per cent.

Waste collections and recycling collections are made fortnightly on alternate weeks in both districts.  Food waste is collected separately each week.
