Press release: First tickets for the White Horse Community lottery go on sale

Posted on July 29, 2021

Residents in the Vale of White Horse can help out local good causes and be in with a chance of winning a weekly £25,000 jackpot if they buy a ticket for the White Horse Community Lottery which go on sale this week.

Players of the lottery can choose which local good cause they want to support when they purchase tickets – they can even choose to support more than one good cause if they like. Tickets cost just £1 per week with 60p from every ticket sold going to support charities and community groups across the Vale. Supporters of the good causes that have registered for the lottery can buy their tickets from the official website.

Tickets go on sale on Thursday 29 July and the first draw will take place on Saturday 18 September. As part of the first draw the council will donate £100 to five good causes which will be chosen by winners.

Vale of White Horse District Council started its own lottery as a fun and creative way for voluntary and community groups to raise much needed funds.

Cllr Margaret Crick, Chair of the Council said: “I’m so pleased that the date for the first lottery tickets going on sale is here. The lottery is a such a good way for people to get involved in supporting local organisations. Residents can choose where they want their money to go, and they too can be winners. It’s so simple to be a part of, both for the player and the good cause or causes they choose to support”

Cllr Bethia Thomas, Cabinet Member for Community Engagement said: “It’s great to hear that the first lottery tickets are going on sale. We will soon be able to see how the local organisations already registered to be a part of the lottery are able to benefit from the funding that is raised. So many have already signed up to take part, but we’d love to see more join in by heading to the lottery’s website.”
